They Steal Their ChancesToBeFree

by Brett Brooks1

They slip into the evening places,
Into the crawl spaces of night ...
They disappear into the darkness shadows
Thinking their deeds are out of sight.
They steal from one another their chances to
be free,
They eat the bread they think so sweet when
eaten secretly.
They do forsake the sacred and immerse in the unclean;
They combine unholy mingle that forges consequence unseen.
They think not that a marriage may be union from above;
She betrays her husband, while her suitor steals his love.
But they steal from one another their chances to be free,
They destroy their souls through wickedness
by what they thinks done secretly.
