Background
postapocalyptic medieval setting. In the fictional land of Arrs an unknown black mist has taken over the bodies of humans. They become known as the tainted.
Having agreed on a course of action, we followed Jer and Brandy to their village. We met some soldiers along the way and told them what was going on. They assured us that they'd station people on the road to prevent anyone from getting close to the village. I ate my crackers on the journey.
Jer owned a large house that somehow managed to retain servants so we were able to washup and relax while waiting for our meal. Jer sent someone out to gather weapons and the rest of the needed supplies. Someone tried to relieve Dave of his sword but quickly backed away when he took an aggressive stance. They showed him to the training area so he could sharpen his sword himself.

Having bathed, I was enjoying the feel of the cloud-like bed beneath me when I heard a knock at the door.

"Come in!"

To my surprise, it was Demi.

"I thought you would be resting" I said as I reluctantly sat up.

"Sorry for disturbing you. You can lie back down, I won't take up too much time. I just wanted to talk to you before the hunt tonight."

I moved over slightly and patted the edge of the bed. Demi hesitated for a second before sitting down. Awe he's shy, how cute.

"No matter what happens tonight, stay behind me. If we get separated and the mutant approaches you, do whatever it takes to get away."

My eyes widened in surprise. Comparatively I wasn't that good in combat but I was still a hunter. I needed to at least do my part of the plan. I pursed my lips.

"Ok, I'll slash it's eyes and then run for my life."

Demi stared at me with a grim look. "What I'm saying is to get away at the nearest opportunity, regardless of whether or not you've blinded it. Things are different this time. Being fast and agile isn't enough. I will make up the difference so just prioritize your safety. Promise me."

"..."

"If you don't promise, we're not going. They can recruit someone else."

"We got recruited because we had the highest chance for success!"

"It doesn't matter. They can't make us participate; we're part of a guild not part of the army."

"Bu-"

"I won't back down on this." Demi firmly asserted.

"Fine." I huffed.

Demi nodded and then left the room.

I wasn't in a good mood. I know his intentions are good but I still feel dejected. Staying alive is definitely my priority but it wasn't a good feeling to be so poorly assessed. What he said wasn't wrong but it's left me feeling like a burden rather than a partner. I decided to try and sleep the feeling off.
