Death on the High Seas

Plunder Blunder

by Terry Reilly

The Pirate ship Captain was William McGrew

Known as Big Willy by his motley crew.

The name of their vessel was Didgeridoo

A black Skull and Crossbones the flag that they flew.

They set sail from Darwin in June Fifty Two

On a wild weather Wednesday at quarter to two.

Their target a galleon from Fernando Poo

Laden with treasures of old Timbuktu.

They headed due West for some days, not a few!

The Spanish ship, limping, hove into view.

Big Willy said: Shipmates, she's listing askew

Board her and claim all the booty you're due.

But when cannons unveiled on the deck, two by two,

The trap had been sprung, the outcome they knew.

The salvo was lethal, their powder room blew.

To Davy Jones locker sank Didgeridoo.
