Two children meet their step-mother.
New Discoveries

Three months after Dad remarried, he “imported” my sister Becky and me to Rome where they were living. They met us at the airport.
After hugging us both, he introduced his new wife. “This is Giana.”
I wasn’t sure how I felt about my Italian step-mother. She was younger than Mom, prettier, but shy.
After we all spent the morning touring plazas and ruins, Giana suddenly grabbed Becky’s arm and mine, yanking us toward a vendor.
“Gelato!” she laughed.
I looked at the round cartons. “Ice cream?
“Si!”
She smiled at the vendor. “Give these, miei figli, spumoni, per favore.”
