Just A Guy Named Jerry
by jim vecchio
The Korean War ended on July 27, 1953. Of twenty-one countries, the United States provided 90% of the fighters.
When the war ended, many individuals like Jerry Loveless ended up on our streetcorners, maimed for life, selling pencils for pennies and change.
A lavish blonde passed, each day, smiled and dropped change into his cup.
Weeks passed by. Jerry fell in love with her.
Then, Joe Petrucci opened his hot dog stand on the opposite corner.
The money the blonde would give to Jerry now went to Joe’s stand.
She passed him without looking.
Joe gave him free hot dogs.
