A 100 word story
Better Things to Do

Jimmy Purdy sprawled in the uncut grass at the top of Sled Hill in Hoover Park. The Middle School was within sight, a soccer field and a reed-filled bog away.
He and Fuggs, his black-and-white spotted pup, were sharing a sandwich though lunchtime was three hours away. His left hand held the string of a red kite spinning upwards towards the lazy clouds.
A warm breeze tousled his shaggy brown hair, teasing a smile out of the 11-year-old.
"Yeah, Fuggs, it's the first day of school down there, but I doubt that new teacher or my classmates will miss me."
