Dreams through the years

I Dreamed

by Verna Cole Mitchell

I dreamed I was a figure skater,
Performing in the Olympics,
Gracefully leaping and bending,
Whirling and twirling on the ice
For applause and gold medals. . .
But I'm not.

I dreamed I was a singing star,
Bringing joy to many
With my rich contralto voice,
Presenting lovely melodies
And songs of inspiration . . .
But I'm not.

I dreamed I was a novelist,
Writing sweet stories of romance
With strong and noble characters,
In the most lyrical of prose
To entrance readers far and near. . .
But I'm not.

I dreamed I was a movie star,
A gifted actress,
Slim and beautiful,
Providing enjoyable entertainment
To a world of admirers. . .
But I'm not.

I dreamed I was a wife,
A mother and grandmother,
Enjoying life with my family
And loving every one of them,
While seeking the approval of God. . .
And I am!
