What's Important

by John Cranford

What is important in our small world,
In the everyday things that around us swirl?
What is important with the people we meet,
The ones we sometimes greet on the street?

It's not that we busily leave our nest.
It's not that we scurry and never find rest.
It's not that we actively seek fortune and fame.
It's not that we try to fit in with the game.

It's who we are and not what we do.
It's what's deep inside us, what really is true.
It's that we're humble and draw strength from above.
It's that we approach each other with love.

So how do we help those struggling we see,
It's not what we do, but who we can be.
Be kind and be gentle, be strong and be pure.
Be willing to listen and help them endure.

The qualities we share with the people we face,
Can make our small world a much better place.
So when you think you have nothing to give,
Just give of yourself and learn how to live.
