If someone were to ask, “Are you doing ok”,

What is the first thing you are likely to say?

Might it be you respond with “I’m doing just fine”,

In the same way you answer most all of the time.

If you were to say that you’re not doing good,

But you don’t for fear you’ll be misunderstood.

Is there no one to tell how you really feel

So, you go on pretending how you feel is not real?

Seems to me it would be exceedingly rare,

Not to have in your life a someone to care.

Who may not work miracles or tell you what to do,

But will listen with empathy and may help you get through.

It may not be easy and could cause you some pain,

Just try to remember nothing tried, nothing gained.

So, on that day when you’re asked if you’re doing fine,

You can say in all truth that you mean it this time.
