Mermouse

by mermaids

The sea is fantasizing with me,

I paint a mermouse who smiles
at me
Her tail, her whiskers
created delicately,
ears way too large
but better to hear
my voice of daily trials
she states do not fear
my unique friend
from another realm
chaos often dominates
my life
but her waters
are mellow, soothing
a soft blanket of saltiness
she invites me to jump
into her ocean world

with the stroke of
a paint brush
my creation appears
a steady companion
guiding me to a better
place, allowing me to think
things through
as she floats in
waters of balm
luring me in
I dive into her world
swimming with
my mermouse

I attended an art class in which we were replicating Martha Cahoon's painting of a mermouse. Martha Cahoon is a marvelous fantasy artist, mermaids, whales and many other land and sea creatures are a common theme in her work. I also read this poem at an open mic I attend monthly. Sorry I am unable to upload a pic of my painting, I have a difficult computer. I welcome any suggestions.
