Luxury Cruise

by Barry Penfold

"Goodbye Tom~so long Sally"
The final shake of hands
I am on the ship and seaward bound
And off to foreign lands

A clang of bells~ the hooter blasts
The liner leaves the dock
And as Southampton lies astern
First stop~Gibraltar rock

Through seas of blue and surging foam
And glorious sandy bays
The leafy palms~ the brillant skies
Would stay with me always.

A new horizon every day
Of costumes,customs and places
Moslem temples~Buddhist shrines
Strange lands and different faces

The memories of camel rides
Rickshaws and cable cars
Countless tours at ports of call
And visits to bazaars

To cruise the world in luxury
Scorning the expense
Another day to savour
Some new experience.

The thrill~the pleasure of it!
Alas! was not for me
For I had dreamt it from a book
At the travel agency,

Dreaming of my first cruise has now turned into dreaming of my next cruise. Enjoy.
