Help me, Dear Lord
My Request
by John Cranford
Dear God,
We only have one life, and we travel through this world but once. Help us to remember that each day is a new opportunity to do good. Help us to remember that there are no do-overs. When the sun sets on each beautiful day, it closes a little chapter in our lives. It will never rise the same way again.
Your beautiful sunset paints a glorious end to all the chances You have given us that day to spread Your love...chances that may never again present themselves.
I have a little group of birds that visit me each morning. With the sunrise, they wait expectantly in the trees for me to fill the bird feeder with their breakfast. I also spread some seed on the ground for the little ones, which haven't yet been given a place at the breakfast table.
I've come to realize that these little creatures know me and depend on me. It's a little thing I do, but it's important to me...and them. I truly believe it's the little things that matter most. I'm reminded of Your love...even for the smallest sparrow.
Teach me to pattern my life after that old Quaker saying: "What shall I do? I expect to pass through this world but once. Therefore, any good work, kindness or service I can render to any person or animal, let me do it now. Let me not neglect or delay to do it, for I will not pass this way again."
To quote another anonymous author, "Help me Lord to go out into the world and do well. But, more importantly, help me go out into the world and do good."
Teach me Lord not to waste Your gift for a day, an hour or a single minute. Help me make the most of my strength and the day's opportunity. Help me spread Your love, good work and kindness, however small the task You place before me...even if it's just feeding one of Your precious little feathered friends.
Most of all, Lord, help me spread the good news of our Savior Jesus Christ, who died for us so that we might live. Let me do it now. Let me not neglect or delay to do it, for I will not pass this way again.
I lift these things up to You in His name.
Amen

"But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry I've received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. - Acts 20:24.
