I wrote this to give to my doctor (to help others)
Defusing the Holiday Time Bomb
It was after the holidays and I did not feel well
I had to check my blood pressure, when feet started to swell
It was two hundred twelve over a hundred twenty six
My feet looked like a baby elephant and human mix
I knew I was a candidate for heart attack or stroke
But I'm not into politics and I'm too young to croak
Seems all the parties we went to, served ham and food with salt
I should have had more self control, I knew it was my fault
And everyone had mega-sweets, so I know why and how
I called my doctor, and she said, "Get in here, I mean now!"
I asked my hubby, "Am I fat?" His sweet answer astounds
He looked at my big feet and said, "Looks like you lost ten pounds"
My bed's adjustable, to put my feet above my heart
The pain has made it hard to walk; more therapy will start
And now I watch my sodium and turn down every sweet
I drink a lot more water, cause I won't accept defeat
Now, this was such a scary time, it might have been too late
And now my other health issues and this collaborate
My doctor said without a doubt, I must communicate
And you can learn from my ordeal; so this I will relate
The Holidays with stress and food, were too much on my plate
