A tale of a very hungry crocodile

Childrens poem - Snap Snap!

by Caroline M England

"Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
He hadn’t had a meal for quite a while.
He saw a zebra high on the bank
And under the water he quickly sank
He was ready now for a spot of food
It really would improve his mood.

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
Despite being big he was quite agile
With a flick of his tail he was ready to bite
And take his prey with a bit of a fight.
The zebra came but it ran too fast
Before he knew it had gone straight past.

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
He was going to need some cunning and guile
Then, all of a sudden a buffalo came
And the good news was he was rather lame.
Deep in the water the crocodile struck
But unfortunately he was out of luck.

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
His thrashing about didn’t have much style.
So he waited patiently by the shore,
And into the water was dipped a paw,
He didn’t think he just grabbed some more,
But he was frightened off by a terrible roar.

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
His temper now was rather vile.
He was getting tired and his eyes were closing,
Very soon he was really dozing.
He had a dream about a nice plump rump,
And how it tasted when he chewed a lump.

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
Just as he spotted a great food pile
On a log of wood was a warthog boar
In the middle of the river looking rather sore.
He’d been rooting round for some grubs in a cave
When he was washed away by a great freak wave.

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
And he opened his mouth in a toothy smile.
As the boar came near he made a lunge
And under the water they both did plunge.
He was rather surprised that it didn’t taste good
But that was because he’d swallowed the wood!

“Snap Snap” went the hungry crocodile
He wouldn’t need a meal for quite a while!
