Tiny Steps

by T.A. Walk

With the tiniest hops,

A bird made its way,

Across my frozen stoop.

I thought to myself,

Why isn’t this bird,

Gone away for the winter?

Just a little bitty thing,

Shivering with each step,

Happily doing its daily chores.

I wish I was that tough,

I’d work until I was done,

Then relax inside my home.

Perhaps I can be,

Just like that fellow,

Content in that bird life.

I want that feeling!

I’ll pick a place to begin,

And just start with a tiny step.

These little, tiny birds hang out in the bushes along my walkway to my building. It's been below zero here, and I just can't get past how dang tough these little guys gotta be...

Well, if they can do it, so can we!!
