A free verse about Solitude

Solitude

by JLR

As I take stride after stride
along the remote mountain trail
even my monkey mind has finally stalled,
and peace consumes me to my very core.

Often, I park myself on a flat boulder,
jutting over the bank of the gushing stream
at one with the surrounding cacophony
of mixed sounds of bees buzzing, birds chirping,
squirrels scrabbling overhead
and the breeze whispering in the leaves
with not one human voice in the mix.

In silence, I rest reposed against a mighty oak.
Far from the maddening crowd that so often
consumes any hope of silence,
I find a rush of calming energy rising inward…
flowing outward to claim my gift of aloneness.
So valued is when one works, thinks,
or rests without disturbance.
Fully absent from distractions or scrutiny.

To sit in a deep flow in inner focus
to breathe
to be at one with that which has ever been
all of which is always present
knowing all will always be….
