Love lost might still be there..

Found under A Bar stool

by Gerard F Keogh

So, what should we say
right here, today?
Feelings that two people had
on one summers' day.
drifting away...

So, what should we do
about me and you?
Recall we opened our hearts
and admired the view.
Fading and frayed...
drifting away...

Once we were young,
our passion was true.
I thought of no one and nothing
unless it was you.
Crossing the rugged terrain
that I found in my way.
Soon the refrain:
"Then came today...

So, where do we go?
now that we know
all of the moments we shared,
was that all for show?
I know I cared.
Yes, that much is true.
So, what about you?

So, take it from here,
should we shed a tear?
For every grief that I gave,
I'll buy you a beer.
Yes, time is a thief
who steals every year,
then leaving us here.

So, what should we be,
if not you and me?
dampening vibrant flames
to a lukewarm degree.
But, what about we?
Please bring back the we.
God...please say that...to me.

Love Poem Poetry Contest contest entry

This is about a love that was there and then lost but it has never gone out. Hope burns and yearns eternal. This was originally a song lyric written in response to a challenge to write better or even acceptable lyrics to a famous show song. They chose Sondheim's " Send in The Clowns." If you put on the melody, hopefully, you will find that you can sing this to that truly memorable music.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
