A Touch of Fire

by Mia Twysted

Coming to life, Jane took a deep breath through her nose. Suddenly alert and sharp, she sprang up, hurrying back toward her headboard. Her breath quickened as her heart pounded in her chest. A scorching red-hot fire engulfed her bedroom. Sweat bled from her pores, evaporating instantaneously. Wrapping her comforter around her head, the terrified woman rolled to the floor. Spinning in circles on her knees, Jane searched for a way out of the flames. Rising to her feet, she took a deep breath before running for the third-story window. Glass shattered as Jane burst out, smoke billowing behind her.
