Family Secrets

by Douglas Goff

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?(*)

Mirrors are never on my side. Showing the dirty secrets that I hide.

It’s not okay, but it’s my game. Leaving me riddled with awful shame.

My life is controlled by binge and purge. With no ability to fight that urge.

Into the bathroom a finger down. It all comes up, I muffle the sound.

My game goes on so very real. I vomit away every meal.

Engaging in such deception feels so low. My family unaware, they just don’t know.

So when a mirror I pass by, I can never look myself in the eye.

For fear of seeing what I am. Nothing more than a shame-filled  sham.
