A New Friend

Rusty, our sandy and black colored Airedale, is a curious girl. Every happening grabs her attention, noises in the house or movement outside the living room window. So, when she discovered the full-length mirror in our bedroom, her curiosity piqued.

She approached with caution, ears perked, tail held high. The reflection stared back, mirroring her every move. She tilted her head and then did a paw lift. Rusty barked two friendly barks and cast an over-the-shoulder glance. The mirrored dog barked back and shot her the same come-hither look.

Rusty’s tail wagged. I think she thought, Wow, a new playmate right here in the house. She turned about, jumped, and spun; the mirrored dog did the same. Soon, wagging tails and playful barks filled the room. Rusty finally plopped down, her mirrored friend did the same. They panted together, eyes gazing at each other, happy finding a new friend.
