Building A Forest of Faith

by CrystieCookie999

For over thirty years, I could not sleep
unless I found at least one scripture verse
just long enough to read, review, and keep
a little leaf of faith, though small and terse,
alive and green, to make it to the dawn.
True scriptures spur the will to carry on.

So once upon a time, I looked for weeks
in all the scriptures, finding every verse
that measured only three full lines, designed
to ascertain what themes were best, not worse,
and how to simplify the way I taught.
This exercise revamped the way I thought.

To me it's best to read, then rest and dream.
If I should miss a night, I'll wake, unnerved.
The forest of my faith needs care, it seems.
My scriptures keep a tree of faith preserved.
I'll never be a deep scriptorian
and still prefer to briefly read or scan.

My Faith Poetry contest entry

Thank you to MoonWillow for the use of a stunning illustration.
Some nights or days, of course, I will read more than one verse. Sometimes it's half a chapter, or an entire chapter, or once in a while even more than that. In my faith we believe God continues to talks to his representatives on earth, called prophets and General Authorities, so we end up reading more often. Or at least it seems that way!
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
