Our Silent Pet

My dear prized pet, sculpted in gray

You stand guarding our porch night and day

Bring us pleasure though you are only stone

You are always there to welcome us home

You care for yourself, never need a walk

Never have to feed you, never a squawk

Best is never having to clean your pooh

You're so patient as my wife dresses you

You don a Santa suit in snowy winter’s grip

Scuba gear in summer, kids think you're hip

Spring brings a baseball uniform with a Cub hat

In fall you become a lady pilgrim, nice and fat

Dear Goose, to us you are more than just stone

You're our loved pet even though not flesh and bone
