Born in Gloucester Va. Hurricane Hazel

True Story

by Leonard Washington Marble

True Story (My Birth Bio)

He's From The "Southern Part Of Gloucester"
Born Pre-Hurricane...
Tipping The Scales At Eleven Pounds-Nine
Thru Wind, And Flood, And Rain

Talking About That Epic Day
In The Autumn Of "54"
October 1, To Be Exact
On The "Hill", In A House, At "Hayes Store"

Now, Some Say The Wind Stopped Blowing
For A Minute... Maybe Two
The Scoffers Said, It Was A Myth
But Those Who Were There said, "True"

After The Birth
It Blew So Fierce And Rained So Hard
There Were "Flying Outhouses"
And Turned Over Cars

This Little-Big Baby, Born In "Storm Hazel"
Grew In Statue And Grace
With Many Good Years, Most Better Than Bad
But Some He Wish Were Erased

But Through It All, The Lad persevered
The "Lord" Being By His Side
He Kept Him Through, Those Days That Were Blue
Even That Time He "Died"

So "Thankful" Is The Man
Whose Heart Now Sings This Song
I'm So Blessed To Love-Laugh-Live
And Offer This "Grateful Poem"
