Children weep in the

City of Graves

by Videl Sky

A tale woven of broken threads

Of children stolen from their tiny beds

A mother weeps for the family she’s lost

A father realizes that war has its cost

Twins who won’t reach their 13th year

A daughter takes her own life out of fear

A dog waiting for humans that won’t come home

Their bodies buried out there under the stone

-

Thousands of dead with thousands more to follow

What once held joy now feels so hollow

The third oldest church, crushed to the ground

Angel’s weep, though we can’t hear that sound

Teddy bears lie in the broken streets

A gut-wrenching sight, no heart beats

Calling in the dark amidst the sound of bombs

This city of rubble will now be their tombs
