Sometimes a child's maturity staggers us
Little Buds
by Claire Tennant
My younger niece once gave me a gift of paper flowers which she chose herself. I was surprised given her age, but I cherish them. Later she, along with her big sister and world's best Daddy, visited us. I had placed the flowers beside another plastic arrangement. She stared almost in disgust.
"Aunty, are those flowers fake?" referring to the plastic.
"Yes."
"Oh, they're nice." said big sister.
"Caroline, they're fake!"
The child is still full of surprises.
