One of my father’s favorite pastimes is to boast about our family’s proud Scandinavian heritage. It happened so often a communal rolling of the eyes was the standard family response. Still, it was very cool knowing his side of the family were direct descendants of the mighty Vikings, who, he constantly reminded us, were forever conquering my mother’s weaker British heritage. Then I received a DNA test kit for my birthday, and all hell broke loose.
