The Dark contest entry
My Own Darkness
by DragonSkulls
I was being held hostage. It was shortly after one in the morning
and the light on my computer screen went out from lack of use.
I was sitting in total darkness. Here of late, that happens quite
often. Once again, I was being held hostage to my own, let's call
it like it is, self worth.
The piece I posted was slightly humorous and a bit witty. Some
folks that actually had half a brain might chuckle under their
breath at the sarcastic meaning of the poem, if you can
actually call the two, four, two required syllable count a poem.
I sat in total darkness for what seemed like hours before I moved
the mouse, just to make the screen come back to life. I checked
my portfolio and after two and a half hours of waiting, I finally
had two views on my post. Apparently it was from other people
in the contest because again, I was wasting life and precious sleep
for the two freebie reviews you get because the site promotes your
crap up a little when I'm too cheap to do so myself. But yet, I still
and the light on my computer screen went out from lack of use.

you had those two free reviews. People snatched the "Up next" like
it was candy. Oh how joyous were those fake reviews we so
desperately longed for. Why I'm still snared in such meaningless
endeavours, I'll never know.

Being after two forty in the morning, I'm sure I'll be long asleep
before those sad, measly two reviews ever come pouring in. I'll
leave my computer on in hopes that I'll check back before I can
no longer keep my eyes open and see a glorious review. But I'll
not keep my fingers crossed nor be surprised if I end up falling
asleep in my office chair when the computer light fades to black
and once again, I'm sitting in total darkness.
