An entry in to the 100 word flash fiction contest
Scone
by BlueJamme
“I tell you it’s skon!”
Philip had walked in from the garden to a heated debate between his twin girls.
“It’s not! it’s scone, to rhyme with phone! Tell her, Dad!”
“Kids-“ uttered Philip before he was interrupted.
“It’s so not! It’s skon to rhyme with won! You agree, right, Dad?”
“Skon!”
“Scone!”
“Kids, kids, kids” said Philip, with a calming tone, “It’s really very simple”
Both twins looked at each other, and then back at their Dad for the judge’s final decision.
“Before you eat it, it’s obviously a scone … but after you eat it ...”
Philip grinned.
“It’s gone!”

For those that don't know, a scone is a popular baked pastry. The British debate as to whether it is Scone/Phone or Skon/Won is as old as the hills (as we Brits also say).
