A Seed of Hope

by Nicki Nance

Proudly we marched, we sat,

We chanted through the night

Our grassroots efforts to turn

Human wrongs to right

Hold hands across the world

Save the planet, see the light

Confidently, we envisioned future

Abundance and inclusivity,

Freedom and peace assured

In health, and spirituality,

Nostalgically humming “Imagine”

Not this insanity

Wretched. We watch the grass die,

Sun scorched, poisoned, war torn,

Bodies, souls, hearts trampled, starved.

For these losses, the masses must mourn.

On fertile ground, in a white-knuckled grip,

A quiet fistful of grass seed, gives hope for hope reborn.
