60 Years Wed...........

Blimey! Have we been married that long ?

I didn't realise,

you just get on with living

and never mind the size.

The years just fly and dissapear

in the dust as you race by,

you raise your kids and love your man

control him by his flies.

Remember when we both first met

how urgent life did seem,

and how, in just half a decade

we'd used up half the cream.

Since then we've all relied on milk

to sweeten sour times,

when first thing in the morning

you hear the waking chimes.

The early years evoke the tears

the kids kept us alert,

when, he came down for breakfast

all he wanted was a shirt !

The appearance of his firstborn

brought about his need to weep,

had it been up to him I'm sure

he'd have had a flock of sheep !

But now came dissapointment

to love it put a stop,

untill we both agreed it time

for him to have the chop.

Then life began again

and with freedom and finesse,

between us more equality

with a second chance we're blessed.

We wept some tears in middle years

the rigours of life we suffered,

and though engaged as ball and chain

never were we fettered.

The children grew as oft they do

though never caused concern,

and all too soon in parenthood

thier lessons they did learn.

Now is the time for gentle things

life's long desert we share,

and whilst wallowing in pink Champagne

thank God we're still a pair.

And though at night we're likely not

to do the things we did,

we'll cuddle up close, recall the times,

we fed the national grid.............2pp
