Our Backyard Possum

My daughter shrieked when we saw him there.
Our possum was smooshed on the road.
She cried, "The poor thing is dead!"
My thoughts started reeling,
then out came this lie.
"I'm sure, sweetie,
that he's just
playing
dead."
