Monsters are real and grow in darkness.

Sewer Life

by Michelle D. Carr

The author has placed a warning on this post for violence.

See the black pool in the sewer,

home to roaches spawned for evil.

These blind bullies, bred to torture,

drawn to blood and pain forever.

Each sadistic ugly beetle,

wears the death mask of a monster.

Bearing darkness to the people,

naive victims of the mobster.

Where is the flame that brings the light?

Cries of hopeless souls are muted.

“Never forget” this endless night.

Savages must be uprooted.

Monsters name the “ Safe Room”, “Death Room”.

Built to be a place of refuge,

they intrude with acts that bring doom,

Terror creates a blood deluge.

Is perfect love offered to all?

Does His forgiveness pierce the dark?

Will grace dispel the black smoke pall?

Can life grow from a soul so stark?
