More than a Swig

by tempeste

Wearing a pretty white dress
Alice followed the solemn mass
feeling somewhat stressed;

Today she was going to receive
her first Holy Communion
and all her family members
close and far
were there to witness the union
between her, Jesus
and one another.

With stately stride
Alice reached the altar
and after eating the body of Christ
she accepted the chalice
of Christ's blood with eagerness.

What happened next
no one could have guessed.

To everyone's shock
Alice didn't just take a mere sip
her head instead continued to tip
the cheeky lass left not even a drip

Everyone in the church
including the pastor
exclaimed silently ", Oh Lord ! "

After the ceremony
there was much laughter.
Grown-ups were standing clustered
while Alice and her friends
we're chasing each other.

The merriment came to an end when suddenly,
 feeling dizzy and slighly flustered,
Alice fell awkwardly.

Rushed to the hospital her arm
was cast in plaster.
Most probably the grape juice
had played a part in the disaster.
