A moment not forgotten

Gingerly

by Claire Tennant

“You must try my favourite drink you must, you must”

she washes glasses at the sink dare I trust, do I trust?

after all, I love red wine, it is exclusively mine

but if I don’t try, she will complain

Here goes, I must

I watch her pour it in the glass; oh my, oh my

she still insists I sip and try, again I try

the smell is heavenly, it tantalises me

I may indeed comply … oh help, time to try

The liquid scorches my tongue, aflame, aflame

why did I not resist …I am to blame

she watches trying not to laugh

What does she want? My autograph!

‘tis too strong for me, by half

Never again

I can still hear her laugh a sight to see

don’t ever offer Stones Ginger to me

I will sing a sweet refrain

You will not hear me complain

Of red wine,  there’s no disdain

At least from me
