Many things trigger memories
Phone me a Memory
by Barry Penfold
The room was open and held many memories. I strode to the desk and opened a book. Immediately, and without knocking, they arrived, one after the other. There was Uncle Don, dad's former business partner. Sid, his reliable mechanic and a tragic tea drinker. One turn and there was Aunty Alice along with cousin Chris. A smile twitched my lips.
Then Fred was walking through the door and I could hear Albert berating Stan. They were all bush fire fighters. Along with dad , they were a motley crew good at their job. The room was noisy and nearly full but as I turned further, more entered. Aunty Betty, Uncle Arthur and Geoff Ireland, all good people. More came and it was a time of great recall. How good it was,
but all good things must end.
I closed dad's telephone diary. The room fell quiet, but the memories linger.
