Love Growth

by Claire Tennant

It's the little things that count and build when love has its way
When out of sight but not of mind, the warmth of love displays
the tender expression in your eyes, shining come what may
With luck and God behind you, it will be there to stay

The loyalty of friendship blocking the truth
He may break your heart forsooth
but if he does, hearts will mend so "they" say
another does the healing his or her way

What about the one you really cannot stand?
annoying you most of the time until he takes your hand
Not one thing that's attractive you can't understand
but friends whisper behind your backs of little wedding bands

When a relative sensing something takes a chance
listening to your objections calls it romance
noticing strong leanings perchance
The glowing eyes have returned at last

It's the love that lasts beyond the wedding day
the friendship and protection along the way
It's arguments and frustration your own observation
"You were less than loving today!"

Forgiveness, tolerance, come what may
The heated words so absurd next day
When you are sad, he takes your hand
telling you he understands
pointing to the wedding band, affection displays
