Cycles

by Jessica Wheeler

A deep breath

Of crisp October air

Fills her little lungs

As day dips in the distance

The leaves tremble and fall

From trees onto the path

She grows before my eyes

Deciding she'll not follow

Shedding extra wheels

She wobbles into balance

Soaring on tires of two

Across an autumn canvas

Hours slip away with sun

The watching moon appears

She rides into the stars

Upon another cycle

Remembering the moment my daughter first learned to ride her bike without training wheels
and wishing time would slow down!
