They loved 'neath a rainbow

Rainbow Over Arroyo Grande

Men like me, homeless and helpless
Will blow in a wind, where Fate will yank us
A trapper by trade, though I was peltless
I lost my heart in the Piedras Blancas.

-so far away-
-so far away-

Now a memory, her name was Sandra
She stole my love, then my dinero
We met in the Arroyo Grande
And discovered romance ‘neath a rainbow

-so long ago-
-so long ago-

San Ycinto was her home
Till our hearts met and kissed
A wandering soul, she did roam
Seeking romance she had missed

-so sweet our love-
-so sweet our love-

Our rainbow vanished with day glow
We held hands through the gloaming
For clothes and jewels, she spent my last peso
As her behavior turned to roaming

-she took my heart-
-she took my heart-

The cliffs were high and quite narrow
The two would meet there, often
-My love, Sandra, and Don Romero
Soon their future would hold a coffin

-he took my treasure-
-he took my treasure-

I met them there, ‘twas a sunny day
Once more, my love betrayed
For Sandra, my pistol would be her bouquet
A death knell, her serenade

-her life is gone-
-her life is gone-

I promised her, death would be swift
As I held Don Romero at bay
Then I pushed her off the cliff
saying, “That’s enough for today!”

-our rainbow, long gone-

Now, Don Romero’s a broken man
Roaming through his heartache
In loneliness, he walks the land
As on a mountain, her life I did take

-his life has ended-
