by Tom Horonzy
The sun, begrudging its descent,

Golden rays splay over and under
clouds at rest, cleaving as would
a cat falling off a bedspread,
doing its best not to plummet
allowing night to win again,
another battle, but not the war,
for when the morning returns
so will the sun's life-giving light.

Whoever tries to control
nature's Venetian blinds
may find it easier to tug
on Superman's cape for
Ol' Sol is a mightier power,
but no more than the night
which comes to cool the day
an august sun leaves behind.

Just as seasons have a reason
night and day share a purpose
patented by God alone.
