A short poem about addiction and its downfalls.

Addiction.

by Enrico Langfordino

They say, addiction is the scourge of man
though in many eyes a pleasure,
to be addicted though, one must
partake to a more extreme measure.

And who is to say to what extreme
one must succumb to qualify ?
One could say we're all addicted to
the air we breath and quantify.

I know I am addicted to
that love shown by the wife,
while other most unlucky blokes
consider that 'a trouble and strife'.

But 'Addiction' in this modern world
means the body will, eventually succumb,
IE, I succumbed to the wife's caress
hense a Granddad I become.

The wife's caress is a 'gentle addiction'
whilst many others are abominations,
such as Cocaine, Marijuana and Heroin
and many more, causing 'orrible palpitations.

The word connection to all addictions
is 'Enjoyment' though only in that first instant,
to catch the unwary off their guard
Then, that substance becomes INSISTANT......

A growing need then manifests itself
attached to the unconscious,
and so, the mind turns our enjoyment
into weaknesses obnoxious.

And weak we are, and weak we do
unable to resist the new,
by now outclassed by senses few
succumbed to the Devil powerful.

The loss of cohesion, sense and sight
reliant now on kindness,
by the wayside eyes less bright
for we there's no redress.

So here be warned afore ye fall
the Devil waits on your weakness,
he stands ever ready to feed your needs
via intravenous hopelessness......2pp
