Two very different creatures describe their calling.
A chapter in the book Meet the Gang

The Anteater and the Hummingbird

by Michelle D. Carr

Anteater, what is your calling?

Inquired the hummingbird.

Your snout is appalling,

your tongue is absurd.

I may look forlorn

but I give pleasure.

Before I was born

He called me a treasure.

He gave me my appetites

which I try to deserve.

I crave ants and termites.

That is how I serve.

I am not honored

like lions or kings,

Or lavishly furred

with raccoon rings.

My Lord loves me.

He made me this way.

I can just be.

He will always stay.

What is your calling,

helicopter in flight?

I find you enthralling.

You hum but don't fight.

I'm called to be seen.

Not to bring doom.

To act like a queen.

Humming my tune.
