Rare Spring Storm

I had my husband explain this to me so I hope I get it right in the translation. It was the results from an earlier thunder-snow since we had snow in the morning and then it got hot, so that is why it looked so wicked. Because there was so much snow this winter, it was piled up high everywhere, but where it had melted already the ground was no longer frozen. The different temps in ground and atmosphere caused havoc with each other, thus causing this phenomenon. Neither of us have ever seen this kind of storm so early in the season and never to such a degree of strange characteristics.
