There are two Spring visions: Mine no longer contains fancy
Spring Loaded and Ready
I remember “Spring and a young man’s fancy”,
But, at seventy-five, I can’t remember why…
For several years now. I've no fancy for
The sweat and toil my wife demands of I.
Yes, the early leaves are exciting and nice,
So nice to see nature bring life back around.
But, buying bags of fertilizer, mulch and
Plants turns my smiles to a bit of a frown.
How 'bout those flower beds which have been
Just fine in both size and current locations.
Are now too small, too large, wrong place,
Whatever – these changes bring frustration.
Men can welcome Spring with golf clubs,
Women greet Spring with new visions
Men can appreciate the warmth, no snow,
While ladies opine new needed additions!
“Please, may I simply enjoy this hammock
Perfectly placed ‘twix blooming trees?”
“Au contraire”, retorts my Spring bride,
“The gardens need you: down on your knees!”
I have no one to blame but myself, you know;
That “young man’s fancy” got me in this mess!
But, after hours of Spring cleaning and yard
Labor, love of life blooms, I must confess…
