Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Free Verse

Checkmate!

Encase yourself in mourning
for today
the Crazy Clock
lurches ever closer
to darkest midnight.
 
In Washington
those we have elected to protect and serve
gleefully plan to destroy themselves
and everyone else
for the momentary pleasure
of owning the other side.
 
In Ukraine
the perverted cruelty
of an aging dictator
rains murder down
upon innocent children.
 
Around the globe,
fire
flood
earthquake
tsunami
Mother Nature runs amok.
 
We drown in lies
as Media at war
bombard us with their spin
and technology that should save us
threatens to overwhelm.
 
And yet
tonight
beyond the eastern hills
the moon spreads once more
her golden parasol
and for 
the thousandth thousand time
prepares her nightly glide
across the starstruck heavens.
 
Womble the dog
runs to fetch his favourite toy
in his canine certainty
that there shall be games.
 
And you, my love,
embrace me at the door.
