My body: An irregular tale of then and now.
Positive Aging
My body is the vessel
for God's purpose that He meant.
Sound attitude will keep me
on a path to be content.
Most people are vain creatures;
with their looks they are engrossed.
They judge themselves and others too;
youth's beauty is a boast.
My body is a temple
that is creaking at the seams.
Once so beautiful to look at
(or was that only in my dreams?)
Now I'm well and truly older
men don't ever stop to stare,
but the good thing that has happened:
I just no longer care!
I admit my memory's rusty,
and my feet are getting flat.
My eyesight is less sharp now,
and my ass is rather fat.
In the mirror I just noticed
some white bristles on my chin,
but I just winked and smiled
for I am beautiful within.
Yes, my hair is turning gray
and my teeth are falling out;
my waistbands are much tighter,
and my big toe suffers gout.
My husband went and left me,
said I was no fun in bed.
Now the good thing that has happened:
that silly man is dead!
Seems his heart just could not handle
his new girlfriend's appetite.
She was a sexy model
who kept him at it ev'ry night.
But here I am alive still,
tucked up safe and sound in bed
with my pussycat to love me
'midst piles of cooking books I've read.
My body is a temple,
just keep pouring bless-ed wine!
I have nice friends around me,
and I occupy my mind.
I'll probably live for years yet,
because I'm happy, no despair.
Due to good things that have happened,
I just no longer care!
