Jesus carries his cross

The Way of the Cross

by Aussie

His bloodied feet bruised the street
Street of cobblestones, via Dolorosa
Dolorosa crammed with Judean hate
Hate for the man who would be King

King of Heaven battered and torn
Torn flesh, sweat and bloody face
Face was wiped; Veronica who loved,
Loved him in his anguish and pain

Pain of falling carrying his cross
Cross too heavy, fell three times
Times made Judeans angry
Angry enough to curse and spit

Spit on the Son of Man via Dolorosa
Dolorosa cobblestones, tortured feet
Feet of the Lord sacred and sweet
Sweet Veronica gazed at the cloth

Cloth wiped his face; sweat and blood
Blood left an imprint of his blessed face
Face of the Son of Man, love's grace
Grace would not save him this day

Day of earthly dying for all three
Three men hung on wooden trees
Trees of death brought hope
Hope for thieves by his side

Side of man speared, died at three
Three crucified, face of sun covered
Covered soldiers played dice for his robe
Robe of Sacred Son - his day

Day of death had come his way
Way of the criminal - crucified
Crucified innocent; save mankind
Mankind waited for him to rise.

Jesus (Yahweh) crucified. He died that we may live.
Dolorosa (mournful way) would have taken Him nearly two hours to reach Golgotha (place of skulls.) The Romans pierced His side, water and blood ensued. As prophecy foretold, no bone in His body was broken. It was common to break the legs of the condemned to hasten death. Most criminal bodies were thrown outside the gates of the city. He was gifted a tomb. On the third day after His death, as predicted, He rose and sat at the right hand of His Father in heaven. Remember Him as He remembers us. Lord of Lords, King of Kings. Passion Sunday not far away.
