A tribute to the sunset view from my room

Sunset Over The Footbridge

by Brenda Henderson

At the end of the day I'd race back to my room.

I'd run up the stairs and plop on the floor, BOOM!

I didn’t want to miss the wonderful show;

As the sun set over the footbridge below.

My room was at the very end of the hall.

With great glass windows that encompassed the wall.

There on the floor, my evening snack in hand, a triple scoop cone of my favorite sherbet;

After dinner at the cafeteria it was nice cool refreshing dessert.

Sometimes orange, pineapple or even lime; I liked them all.

I would cover my cone with “Fruit Loops” being careful lest any should fall.

There I’d sit quietly in my darkening dorm room.

Anxious for the sight that carried me over the moon.

The last flickering light of the sun setting over the bridge.

I had a panoramic view of the vast campus acreage.

With the lake, the library and the tower off in the distance.

Anything that might make me miss this show was met with resistance.

It was a vision of loveliness; a true sight to behold.

There are surely prettier sights, or so I’ve been told.

But there’s nothing like a peaceful nightfall on well manicured campus grounds.

Those were beautiful memories indeed, in retrospect I’ve found.

With nary a soul stirring and trees gently bowing to the breeze.

When I think back on it now,  it gives my soul ease.
