“Dear Lord,” Mercy continued praying, “please bring repentance and salvation to our dear fallen sister, Angela, who slept with another man who isn't her husband. She needs your grace, Lord. And bless saintly Tom, who hasn't yet had the heart to sign those divorce papers.”
With her eyes closed and head bowed, Angela felt all eyes turn toward her and Tom. She hadn't told Mercy. If Tom didn't kill Angela, she was gonna kill him.

Tom trusted Angela to keep her marriage vows. Then he trusted Mercy to keep quiet about things she was told in confidence. Poor, poor Tom. (These three characters are fictional.)
