He's Risen

My Lenten Rose

by Janet Foor

As Sol ascends the eastern sky
its rays shine on my Lenten Rose.
It brings me hope of Spring's return --
and then, another rooster crows.

I am reminded of that night
when Jesus asked his friends to pray.
They could not watch and pray an hour --
and soon the brash one would betray.

The Garden of Gethsemane
was clothed in ancient olive trees.
The scent of jasmine filled the air
as Jesus fell upon his knees.

His sweat became like drops of blood
as angels came to comfort him.
"Remove this cup from me," he cried
with anguish in his every limb.

In sorrow, overwhelmed, he grieved
while brothers slept upon the hill.
Alone, he wept in agony
surrendered to His Father's will.

It seems we are the same as them.
We fail him as our story shows.
It breaks my heart - but then again --
He's risen, like my Lenten Rose.

Every Spring, I look forward to the lovely blossoms of my Lenten Rose reminding me of this special time of year when we prepare for Easter.
