If Things Were Still Run by Bob

by bob cullen

They used to come in groups of twelve, a carton held a dozen.

I’m amazed no one’s complainin’, egg buyers should be buzzin’.

Quantity’s been reduced by two and the price remains the same,

Supermarket’s have ripped us off, they should hang their heads in shame.

A carton used to feed a fam’ly of six, two eggs per plate,

Now to get two eggs, you just have to hope, someone shows up late.

We can’t blame the chooks, every day they do their very best,

An egg a day on what they’re fed, it’s sure an awesome test.

What we need is a chook union demanding much better pay,

And better conditions, would you like to be caged up all day.

With another thousand hens and all they do is bloody squawk,

No one would have dared do this, if things were still run by Bob Hawke.

For those not familiar with the name Bob Hawke, he was formerly the leader of the Trade Union Movement in Australia. I believe he is still recognized, by many as the Nation's greatest ever Union official. Later he became Australian Prime Minister.
